We're a chatty lot lately.
It's a sad day when the only posts are by spammers. Nobody is riding anymore? No mods, no troubleshooting, no pics or problems, no braggadocio or commentary? C'mon guys, what's up out there?

Let's face it, the forum has been on the decline for years now, thanks to FB and the habit now of people just asking how to do anything and everything without doing their own research. This site is a wonderful resource which I keep pointing out to new owners but it's too hard for them, easier to ask on a bloody FB page and get ten different answers from ten experts.

For me, covid catchup holidays have gotten in the way of long rides, I even missed our last flocking, I have another long cruise coming up at the end of April, then my daughter's wedding at our place in June. Maybe in July I can get back to normal, we have also had some drama with commercial tenants , still sorting that one out.

I will be working on a mate's Tbird next month, appears to have done a stator which may have also taken the regulator/rectifier out. Mine is going well, just about to tick over the 180000 kms. The Indian is going well also, will be a lot better when I sort out the shitty factory stage1 tune. That's about it.

YES, the SPAM sucks!!

been on every day, but not much to put forward, dont know much about the technical thingos, but just like to hear whats going on, which hasnt been much of lately...Still riding the HD and enjoying but not as much as the Bird, but ciccumstances dictate as to what is suitable...The seat on the LT is a bit wider that the standard bird and so the feet arent fully touching ground, and as i explained before, over it goes ....Getting old....Missed the Omeo for a wedding, only 2.50 hrs away and ive been on that road about a 100 times, what with kayaking and riding...I hear everyone had a good time and no incidents..I agree about Farcebook, too many people on it who havent got a clue about anything biking...Think half the time they just ask stupid question that a 10 yr old could answer..I notice that the majority of the ex Forum members dont contribute to it.. The flocking at Bathurst i enjoyed, drank too much and if you heard a harley leave at 2.30 in the morning that was me...Got to wagga at about 830 or something and said fuck kept goin to home....Good trip...all the best mate....mite catch up another day

Yes mate and no one bothers to thank you for any help or get back and report if the problem was sorted, no manners, no respect, I really think hard now before helping anyone except for the old crew.

I just came to a point a couple years ago where i figured out what stopped that cursed clacking issue and since then i have not cared about mods or any of that. Just happy with it as is. But yeah, i'm an endangered Tbirder because the mileage is near 100k and parts are scarce and tho it's my fav bike of all time, it's just time to get something else. Because at this point it's at that age where things start breaking and leaving you stranded so it's just going to become my special occasion ride while i get something new and economical to be the daily rider. I'm getting up there and i just don't care that much anymore about having a bike thats my pride and joy. These days it's become more about just feeling the wind on my face, riding in a more sedate manner and riding thru beautiful rural areas and exploring/seeing the sights. Something with great economy and reliability has become the more important factor. Don't get me wrong, i love the Bird as much as ever. More actually due to the now quiet engine. And i haven't planned on selling it. Probably die with it still in my possession. But it as i said will be more of a occasional ride for those special days when i feel the need for more then just a utilitarian ride to feel the wind.

But lets face it.....the bike is out of production about 6 years now and few were made to begin with. So the way the forum is going is just the natural progression of things. Sad, and even sadder triumph seems to have abandoned their pride in the line and building bikes based only on sales. Necassary to some degree of course, but building bikes that appealed to riders that take pride in having a special ride that isn't seen on every street corner isn't something they care about anymore. I guess u can't blame them, it IS a business after all. Just sad tho, at least th way i see it going.

Agree Daz. They are showing signs of unreliability. Mine has let me down twice. Two of our regular flockers have been left stranded recently, one with a blown gearbox, the other appears to be a stator, I will know in a week or so on that one as it's being delivered to my place next week. Can't be helped, they weren't built to last forever. Like you I doubt that I will ever sell mine but I am now looking at riding the Indian to future flockings. If Triumph bring out a proper cruiser/tourer again I would happily sell the Indian and buy one but that's not going to happen.

Same here, tho at this point i'd prefer a 1200 cruiser over another big one like the bird. I was hopeful when the 1200 water cooled bikes debuted but when that thing triumph is calling a cruiser showed up i couldn't have been more disappointed. They failed to sell enough proper cruisers like the bird and the speedmaster/america so i guess they wanted to still have a bike they could call a cruiser in their lineup but basically built a variant of the bobber which they had already had good success with as far as numbers. Marketing shit...

Yep, same here. For years I've been salivating over the thought of a 1200 Speedmaster, well they have one now. What I would have liked to see is the older style Speedmaster with a 1200 AND a 4 gal. tank......so we still have the Honda Shadow. Besides the new Speedmaster costs more than the Thunderbird when it was new.

I recently had the pleasure to ride both a BMW GS1250 and a Triumph 1200 explorer. Both are very appealing bikes, although the BMW is a bit outdated. The Explorer is kind to my back, takes corners with ease, and got a lot of power. Would consider it as a second bike, for long runs.

And yes, the bird is getting more prone to failure, and I don't trust it for extended rides anymore, afraid to get stranded somewhere remote. Repair shops and spare parts are getting somewhat rare around here now.

Excellent. SEQ crew are staying at the Bendemeer pub on the Thursday night if you want to join up. Or we can meet up somewhere on the New England Hwy.
